Flex Tennis

What Is a Flex Tennis League?

A flex league is a tennis league where you choose when and where you play. Instead of showing up at a fixed time every week, you contact your opponent and mutually agree on a time and court that works for both of you. Each round gives you a 2-week scheduling window, so there's plenty of room to work around jobs, family, travel, and everything else life throws at you.

ABTL has been running Nebraska's flex tennis league since 1999. We handle the organization - skill-based divisions, season schedules, opponent assignments, standings, and score reporting - while you handle the fun part: playing tennis. It's structured competition without the rigid time commitment that keeps so many adults from joining traditional leagues.

How Flex Scheduling Works

  1. Each round, you receive your opponent's contact info
  2. Reach out by email or phone to propose times
  3. Agree on a date, time, and court location
  4. Play your match anytime within the 2-week window
  5. Report your score online - done!

Why Flex Tennis Works for Busy Adults

Traditional leagues demand your time. A flex league respects it.

Work-Friendly

No fixed match nights means no conflicts with late meetings, travel days, or unpredictable schedules. Play mornings, evenings, or weekends - whatever works.

Family-Friendly

Kids' soccer practice on Tuesday? No problem. Schedule your match for Saturday morning instead. Flex scheduling bends around your family life, not the other way around.

Travel-Friendly

Out of town one week? Play your match the next week. The 2-week round window gives you breathing room when travel or vacations pop up.

Play Anywhere

No assigned facility. Play at any public court in Lincoln or Omaha that you and your opponent agree on. Pick the court closest to you or meet halfway.

How Match Scheduling Works

Simple, flexible, and entirely in your hands.

At the start of each round, ABTL publishes your next opponent along with their contact information. From there, it's up to you and your opponent to connect and find a time. Most players reach out by text or email within the first few days of each round.

You'll agree on a date, time, and court - any public court in your area works. Lincoln players typically choose from courts across the city, while Omaha players have the entire metro to pick from. After you play, the winner reports the score online and standings update automatically.

If scheduling gets tricky, we're here to help. Reach out and we can assist with communication or grant extensions when needed.

Scheduling Tips

  • Reach out early - contact your opponent in the first few days of each round for the most options
  • Offer multiple times - propose 2-3 options to make it easy for your opponent to say yes
  • Have a backup plan - agree on a rain date when you schedule, just in case
  • Meet in the middle - take turns choosing the court, or pick one halfway between you
