Getting Started
ABTL (ACE Bandage Tennis League) is a recreational flex tennis league serving Nebraska since 1999. We provide organized, competitive tennis at an affordable price with flexible scheduling that works around your busy life.
A flex league means you have flexibility in when and where you play your matches. Instead of having fixed match times, you contact your opponent and mutually agree on a time and location during each round window (typically 2 weeks). This makes it easy for people with busy or unpredictable schedules to participate.
We offer multiple divisions to accommodate players from beginners to advanced. When you register, you'll self-rate your skill level or provide your NTRP rating. We use this information to place you in a division where you'll have competitive, enjoyable matches.
No! ABTL matches can be played at any public court in the Nebraska area. There's no club membership required. You and your opponent simply agree on a convenient public court for your match.
Registration & Fees
Registration is $30 per season for either singles or doubles. If you sign up for both, you can save $5 (pay $55 instead of $60). This fee covers everything - there are no hidden costs or additional fees.
We run two seasons per year: Summer (registration opens in January) and Fall (registration opens in July). Sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media to be notified when registration opens.
Full refunds are available if you withdraw before the season schedule is published. After schedules are released, we offer partial refunds or credits toward future seasons on a case-by-case basis. Contact us to discuss your situation.
Registration is done online through our website. Create an account, select your division(s), and pay the registration fee. The whole process only takes a few minutes. You'll receive a confirmation email once your registration is complete.
Scheduling Matches
At the start of each round, you'll receive your opponent's contact information (email and/or phone) through the website and via email. Use this information to reach out and propose times for your match.
Try multiple contact methods (email, text, phone call). If you still can't reach them after several attempts over a few days, contact us. We'll reach out to your opponent and help resolve the situation. Document your contact attempts in case a default is needed.
Any public tennis court in the Nebraska area works. We recommend taking turns hosting (playing at courts near your home) or meeting at a location convenient to both players. Nebraska has many great free public courts throughout the city.
Contact us before the deadline if you're having trouble scheduling. We may be able to grant an extension. If the match truly can't be played and both players made good faith efforts, we'll handle it fairly. If one player was unresponsive, a default may be awarded.
Match Play & Rules
Matches are best of 3 sets with a 7-point tiebreaker at 6-6. For the third set, players can mutually agree to play a 10-point match tiebreaker instead of a full set to save time.
Players should agree ahead of time. Common arrangements include: one player brings new balls, players split the cost of balls, or alternate who provides balls each match. Communication before the match helps avoid confusion.
Reschedule! When setting up your original match, it's smart to discuss a backup date in case of weather. If courts are wet or conditions are unsafe, don't play - reschedule within the round window or contact us if you need an extension.
ABTL expects good sportsmanship from all players. Each player calls their own side of the court honestly. If there's a dispute, the point should be replayed. For persistent issues, contact us after the match.
Standings & Results
Log in to your account on the ABTL website and navigate to your match. Enter the score for each set and submit. Both players can submit scores, but they should match! Report results within 48 hours of completing your match.
Standings are primarily based on win/loss record. Tiebreakers typically include head-to-head results, set differential, and game differential. Full standings rules are available in your division's information page.
If there's a discrepancy, we'll contact both players to clarify. Make sure to keep track of your scores during the match. Taking a quick photo of the final score on your phone is a good practice.
Other Questions
Yes! You can register for both singles and doubles in the same season. Many players do this to get more matches and practice both formats.
Yes! We maintain a list of players looking for partners. Contact us and we'll try to match you with someone at a similar skill level who's also seeking a partner.
Contact us if you feel you're in the wrong division. We can discuss your match results and make adjustments for future seasons. It's better to start in a lower division and move up than to struggle in one that's too advanced.
The best way to reach us is through the Contact page or by emailing info@abtlleague.com. We typically respond within 24-48 hours.
